Today members of Squirrel Hill Stands Against Gun Violence and Moms Demand Action visited State Representative Lori Myzgorski (R - HD 30). During this very productive meeting, we thanked Ms. Mzygorski for her opposition to arming teachers and her stated support for expanding background checks to include private sales of long guns (Pennsylvania already requires background checks for private sales of pistols). She also stated her support for banning high capacity magazines and for safe storage laws, assuming the language of proposed bills does not involve invasion of privacy (it doesn't). Representative Myzgorski also agreed to read the sponsorship memo for the Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO, red flag) bill proposed by Representative Todd Stevens (R - HD 151) and to reach out to Rep. Stevens with any questions. Our last ask was that she consider joining the PA Safe Caucus, a bipartisan group of legislators working on gun violence prevention. Overall, a great start with a new representative.
