Team 26, a group of bicycle riders who came together after the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, have been riding from Newtown to Washington DC annually to bring visibility to gun violence prevention legislation. This year, deeply moved by the massacre at Tree of Life synagogue and disgusted and disappointed by the complete failure of Congress to act, they rode 625 miles from Newtown to Squirrel Hill. Their mission - to unite Newtown with Squirrel Hill and all the communities between and to share their message. We must ALL take action. We must ALL make our representatives know that the status quo is unacceptable. NOBODY needs weapons of war designed only to kill as quickly and effectively as possible.
Team 26 brought us gifts as well - seeds from Columbine and a garden tool made from melted down guns from a gun buyback program in Connecticut (and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.—Isaiah 2:3–4).
