The House of Representatives passed the most significant gun control legislation in two decades yesterday. HR8 expands background checks to include a background check on most private sales of guns (sales to family members are excluded). These are checks that commercial gun dealer sales have been subject to for decades and which for most sales, take under 3 minutes. We thank our members who made calls to and visited their Congressional Representatives. Unfortunately the Senate version of the bill (S.42) faces much more opposition and Senator McConnell is extremely unlikely to take up the bill unless he sees overwhelming pressure.
