Enough: Vigil to Disarm/Dismantle Hate

On Thursday, August 8, CeasefirePA, Squirrel Hill Stands Against Gun Violence and Casa San Jose hosted a vigil and rally to honor the victims of the mass shootings in Gilroy, El Paso and Dayton and to push for gun law reform. The event was co-sponsored by Bend the Arc: Pittsburgh, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Amnesty International Group 39, Indivisible Pittsburgh, Women's March - Pittsburgh, Black Women for Positive Change, Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network, Voices Against Violence, March For Our Lives, B-PEP/CAV, the Thomas Merton Center, NAACP Pittsburgh, the Sunnyhill Social Justice Committee, J Street Pittsburgh, and SEIU Healthcare PA. Several hundred people attended. Speakers included Carolyn Ban, Chair of Squirrel Hill Stands Against Gun Violence, Rabbi Jonathan Perlman, Rabbi of New Light Congregation (one of the three congregations at Tree of Life synagogue), Rob Conroy of CeasefirePA, Monica Ruiz of Casa San Jose, Rev. Vince Kolb of Sixth Presbyterian Church, Wynona Harper of Moms Demand Action, Tracy Baton of Women's March Pittsburgh and Indivisible Pittsburgh, Tim Stevens of B-PEP, Wasi Mohamed of the Islamic Center, State Senator Jay Costa, State Representatives Dan Frankel, Summer Lee and Ed Gainey, and Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto.
